TRANSPORTATION OPTIMIZATION IN COLD SUPPLY CHAIN A CASE STUDY OF A THIRD PARTY LOGISTIC

Abstract
Transport is commonly the biggest cost component in supply chain management, and hence become the first optimization target for companies. In order to get economic of scale, companies may outsource its transportation activities to third party logistics providers. In the case of cold supply chain, where products must be transported under certain temperature, outsourcing can be another good reason for efficiency. This research is based on a case study of third party logistic provider, where its main principal is a food company with several food service outlets in Indonesia. The research project is evaluating how to best optimize the transportation scheduling of its cold supply chain to all the food service outlets of its main customer.
